Mike, thanks for this fantastic list. I agree. There is also Don Quijote de la Mancha - Miguel de Cervantes. have printed rhe list for reference. I have read many of them and maybe, thanks to you, I will read some I have not read and reread again others I have read. Your postings always inspire me to read more fiction. Thank! Francisco

Always enjoy looking through book lists. Seeing Narcissus and Goldmund brought back memories. I went through a Herman Hesse phase, reading everything he wrote. The Glass Bead Game is my favorite - I carried that book around with me one entire summer, I remember.

When I saw Grossman in second spot, I knew this list was for me. I am fascinated by his wartime journal. As far as I know, it is only available in Russian and French, but should be much more widely read.
