Dear New Florence reader,
So grateful to you for walking into the second year on this journey with me and with our fellow New Florence community participants.
On this first anniversary, just wanted to share two YouTube videos of my favorite song of all time, which I think of as “Wide Awake” but was actually called “Bad”. I include both the original version on the C.D. that I played countless times in the 1980s and U2’s live performance of it at the 1985 Live Aid concert. Take your pick.
If you like it too, what does this song mean to you?
To me, it’s a sublime spiritual experience.
From empathy and depth, the song conveys something universal and eternal. It calls us to break free from everything that tethers us to our wounded, scarred, earth-bound, mortal self and enter a higher, more open sphere. To leave behind our inner turmoil and be elevated into that space. To be liberated. To step into the beauty of the Light, to heal, to discover what’s best within us, and to grow into it.
Onward to 2024!
All my best,
Mike
Agreed, one of the best songs ever! And happy one-year anniversary!
Happy Substack Anniversary Mike! You just reminded me mine is coming up in February. I remember first meeting you when I signed into my first Office Hours. Wow time has flown by.
