One novel I've read recently and really enjoyed was "The Way We Live Now" by Anthony Trollope. And, it is quite pertinent to the way we are living now. Highly recommend.
Nevil Shute-By far my favorite. Alexander McCall Smith, David McCullough. I like simple mystery writers like Dorothy Gilman- I think too much therefore I like to read light.
