Aware of the Zero Point Field, we are aware that we are living in an open, creative universe that is endowed with deep and subtle purpose. We know that underlying our visible universe is a dynamic moving wholeness. And we know, deep in our bones, that this wholeness is primary.
This flowing substance, this cosmic essence, this great ocean, this universal reservoir, this world of waves, this great common carrier of energy and information is within our reach. And the Field runs through us all. It is the connecting link.
If this is all we got out of our awareness of the Field, it would be powerfully transformational for us. But the primary benefit of becoming consciously aware of the Zero Point Field is that we live more of our life in the flow state — in the zone. And, secondarily, getting in flow with the Field usually makes us much more creative.
From the moment of our conception, we are constantly interacting with the Zero Point Field. This matrix of latent possibilities — this realm of sheer potential — is filled with the unmanifest waiting to be manifested.
By being aware of the Field and tapping into its riches, we unfold more of the potential of our mind and our life, and we flourish in some new way. We become a vessel for this sea of energy and information. New ideas bloom. Solutions appear to us. We make breakthroughs.
All our lives we have been cradled in this universal swirl of everything. Now we know it. Now we are consciously aware that we are enwrapped in the Field and we are enthralled by it, and from this infinite current we find the energy and intelligence we need to release the boundless wealth of our mind. We reach or step into the Field, ride its rippling waves, and crystallize it into forms. And so we realize more of our giftedness and make a deeper contribution to humanity and to the person right in front of us in this moment.
Every culture around the world recognizes peak states — coherent states of human consciousness. We reach serenity, mindfulness, awakening, radiance, brilliance, satori. We are in sync, tuned in, in the zone. We achieve effortless mastery. We find our bliss. We find our swing. We enter into a full rapport with life. We experience what Emerson meant when he said that “genius is to inhabit a moment completely”.
In our peak state, our being transcends our ordinary self. Our will is free, our energy liberated. Our mind is lucid, our thinking clear.
These states involve a certain altitude — a certain richness, power, depth. There may be wonder, mystery, enchantment, awe. There may be delight, happiness, joy, and an acute sense of well-being. And things just feel right.
We encounter the beauty and splendor of what lies beyond us and what lies within us. We are rooted in the Field yet engaged with the world.
In this magnetic harmony, we let the energy of a greater wholeness unfold through us. As we reach a peak state in every part of our being, we may tap into a richer order, harmony, and rhythm — something beautiful, exalted, noble, and grand. And from that deeper perfection, we may do something sublime, uncanny, and totally pure.
To jazz great Wynton Marsalis, our swing is the integrity of our groove, that glow in our soul, that smoke in our sound, our rhythm, the heart of our experience, our inherent inclination and sheer essence.
From actors to athletes, the best human performances are reached when we learn to relax. There is no room left in our consciousness for distracting thoughts. There is only the performance. There is only the game.
In flow with the Field, we are fully present and super-relaxed — in an almost trance-like state. We get immersed in what’s happening, trust ourselves at a very deep level, and respond spontaneously in each moment.
Flowing in the Field involves our sixth sense, our intuition, our extrasensory perception. We sense another person’s mind telepathically, we sense events in space clairvoyantly, and we sense what is about to happen precognitively.
Michael Jordan put it this way: “What happens to clutch guys in big moments is that everything slows down. You have time to evaluate the situation, and you can clearly see every move you need to make. You’re in the moment, in complete control. It’s hard to get there; something has to have you thinking you can do no wrong. But once you do get there, you can just come out at the start of a game and generate that feeling.”
Like the characters in the movies Field of Dreams and The Legend of Bagger Vance, we may find our life taking on mystical touches. In flow with the Field, we are more likely to notice synchronicities that confirm a transcendent order and purpose or even reveal a path for us to take.
And in flow with the Field, we are more creative.
In music, U2’s Bono suspects that stumbling upon the Muse’s greatness “really might come down to osmosis”. Bono says that art is not about being cool but the very opposite of cool: worship, ecstasy, wonder, and awe — a natural high of effortless concentration in which we totally open ourselves up.
Chris Martin of Coldplay believes songs are floating around in the ether. The writer doesn’t compose them so much as pluck them out of that dimension and channel them.
In literature, Rainer Maria Rilke was the seer of the invisible, with a genius for portraying transcendental experience. Hart Crane was fascinated by the Sublime and the human mind activated in all its powers. And Irish Murdoch repeatedly wrote of visionary states in enchanted space.
In technology, Thomas Edison believed that his inventions came through him from invisible forces in the universe. Chester Carlson believed that the information he used to develop photocopying came to him from a deeper dimension.
There is a sea in which many creative people go fishing. There is an ocean from which many creative people fetch out new forms. Geniuses have tapped into this matrix of infinite potential, this realm of becoming, without knowing that it was called the Zero Point Field — and even without knowing that the Field existed.
From our moments of attunement with the Field, we bring something rare and fine back to use in daily life. Like sifting the ocean into a bucket, we transmute the vastness of the Field’s possibilities into something individual. With the entire Field open to us and ours to draw on, we surf the tide of this latent creative force. We manifest things. We shape our portion of the Field into something valued in the world.
Relying on a reality that pierces and dissolves all boundaries and places within us — beyond the highest stretch of our efforts and beyond our powers to conceive — a new vision and new resources. Beyond our senses, beyond the finest work of our rational mind, we may intimate and access and enter into a rhythmic relationship with a transcendent superabundance of energy, a completeness of thought, a rapture discharging itself. Perhaps this is what most creative inspiration is.
So let’s make it happen — and make it happen more often. Let’s enlarge, day by day, our capacity to fill up our being from the fullness of the Field. And let’s bring to fruition, hour by hour and moment by moment, more and more of our boundless potential.
All my best to you,
Mike
I really enjoyed this essay Mike! Thank you.
Love this: its breadth and essence on creative work.
